Jei Kennedy - Program Director (1st degree black belt)

Coach Jei, a US military veteran from Atlanta, Georgia, has been coaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for over 15 years and is known as a coach’s coach. His approach to Jiu-Jitsu goes beyond the mat—blending spirituality, mindset, fundamental technique, and personal transformation into a cohesive methodology.

Rooted in his love for Jesus, sci-fi, anime, soul music, and art, Coach Jei brings a deeply creative and soulful lens to the art of Jiu-Jitsu, helping students uncover not only their skills but their true selves.

He believes there are No Ordinary People—that every person who walks through the door carries unique value and untapped potential. At Gentle Human, students aren’t just learning to fight—they’re learning to become. This philosophy shapes the culture, making the gym a true third place—not home, not work, but a sacred space for growth, connection, and community.

As a father, Coach Jei sees Jiu-Jitsu as more than a sport—it’s a way to raise people into who they were meant to be.

Reese Arnold - 1st Assistant (2nd degree brown belt)

Coach Reese, a Seattle native and original Gentle Human student, began his Jiu-Jitsu journey with Coach Jei in 2017. He embodies the art’s transformative power—growing from student to coach to active competitor, all while carrying a deep love for the craft and a heart for people.

Beloved by kids, parents, and peers alike, Coach Reese brings contagious energy, humility, and joy into every class. His creative spirit and technical depth, grounded by a consistent yoga practice, make his coaching both thoughtful and dynamic.

As a family-oriented man, he understands the importance of creating a safe, uplifting environment for all ages. His approach blends precision with expression, drawing from his competitive experience and the balance he finds on and off the mats.

A true student of the game, Coach Reese’s commitment to growth and learning makes him an essential thread in the fabric of Gentle Human.

Lulu Walker - 2nd Assistant (Purple belt)

Coach Lulu began training with Coach Jei in 2015 at just 10 years old. Now, with hundreds of matches under her belt and a fearless presence on the mats, she has become the Pearl of Gentle Human. At only 100 lbs, Coach Lulu is living proof that strength comes in many forms.

Having grown through every stage of the youth program, she is a powerful example of why children should train BJJ. Her heart, courage, and compassion shine through in every class, making her a beloved figure in the gym—especially among the young girls who see her as a hero and role model.

In addition to coaching, Coach Lulu is an accomplished competitor, winning the 2025 IBJJF European Championships in Lisbon, Portugal and earning podium finishes at several top tournaments.

Off the mats, Lulu is a talented baker, passionate home cook, and widely regarded as the gym’s foremost authority on SpongeBob SquarePants.
